January 16, 2022 - Just finished my last bottle of this fantastic wine. Has softened considerably and is at its peak now. Tulocay Cabernets are a real treat!

(4/20/2011) An incredible but thoroughly old-fashioned Napa Cabernet — "old-fashioned" meaning a wine made to last decades, as is the style of many Tulocay wines. Deeply colored and hardly showing its age at 6 years, its flavors reflect what one would expect from the Stag's Leap-Coombsville area of southeastern Napa Valley from which all the grapes are sourced — rough-hewn rather than dainty. Oak is restrained. Instead, fruit, tannin and power dominate.

April 2, 2017 - Popped and poured. This bottle didn't need any time to breath; it was ready for action the moment the cork was pulled. I found it to have a rather remarkable nose. The most striking characteristic would have to be the amount of espresso. I mean...it smelled like someone pulled a fresh shot into my glass. I've never encountered such a strong coffee note and everyone agreed. It was actually quite charming as it differentiated itself from your typical Napa CS experience. There was more there too, of course; currants and some thyme. On the palate, there was more than a decent amount of dark fruit with some leather and forest floor also peeking through. Tannin has softened from earlier bottles. Acid enough to keep this alive in the cellar until it's 20th birthday. Unfortunately, this was my last bottle of several that I had and now looking back at my previous notes...I was wanting to hold this a lot longer than I did! Oh well, it further reinforces that this has the stuffing to last. This was the best showing yet. Drink now or Hold.

January 23, 2016 - Very good. Bought 9 of these 2 years ago, and have enjoyed them all, but it just gets better. Great fruit, smooth, a real pleasure to drink.

November 8, 2015 - Not good at all. Sour aftertaste. Recorked and tried again on day 2,4 & 5, but no improvement. Assume maybe a bad bottle since prior three were good, and they showed no evidence of being close to going downhill.
