April 4, 2024 - Decanted off sediment to leave a full glass in bottle.

6 hours later, poured from decanter to reveal a deliciously classic Syrah nose with meats, violets, garrigue.

Palate of cured meats, blood, lots of blood, charcuterie, not much fruit but there was brambleberry soaked prosciutto.

    This wine was AWESOME!
This hit EVERYTHING that I love in a wine. It was in a perfect drinking window.
I let rest upright for 6 months. Took to Moab to enjoy, keeping it upright the whole way. It was clear when decanted and totally clear until the last 6oz when the fine sediment smoke showed.
The cork smelled very slightly of TCA, but the juice held no such aroma or flavor. Whew! This bottle was purchased in a lot and was my only one.

GODDAM perfect Syrah. Love this so much.
    Paired perfectly with pan-seared ribeye.
The beef brought out more juicy fruit and the blood took more of a back seat, but it was still bloody fruit.
Why can't all producers be like Faury!

I could see this going on for another 10 years with more and more tertiary showing. Once all the fruit goes into the meat this will still be a joy to drink in 2034.

As I continued to imbibe with my ribeye, more and more prosciutto showed and that classic bacon was there, and spices built with length. After 3 sips I counted 40 seconds of evolution that left a coating of tobacco and delicate grip: Just a great wine!

The price here on Wine-Searcher says $23.89. What?! Really?
If that were true, then this might be the best bang for buck in wine.

Based on my experience with this bottle, I'd pay $80 in a fine restaurant, and buy two for sure, to pair with my tomahawk!

January 2, 2023 - PNP. Cork wet halfway up but intact. Color is seriously dark garnet w no signs of age. Nose has olives and meaty aroma surrounding dark cherry and plum. Swishing this shows primarily acid structure and heavy fruit with very fine grained tannin, but one has to look for the latter. Sipping this is pure joy but the acid makes this seems much lighter than it really is. Not sure how they did this but I expect that this will go a very long time and only get better but pretty spectacular tonight.

February 18, 2022 - Took this to the Fig Café. Initially some smoke and black olives on the nose, and the palate was tight but quite tasty. Over the course of the next hour+ it unfurled and was very, very nice. The florals came out and the texture went from tight and lean to velvety smooth. Excellent St. Joseph! Just make sure to give it an hour or so of airtime.

January 11, 2020 - The wine is smoking good right now, emphasis on smoke. There is a stony, smoky perfume that fills the glass, followed by well integrated fruit and dried herbs. Still fresh and vibrant, without any roasted notes. I was mightily impressed at how it showed

May 1, 2017 - While this starts off with some smoke and meat, it is in essence built on the florals (violets, etc.) which develop after a short time open. Very nice, and an excellent QPR.
