April 14, 2011 - Pretty drinkable, if short of body and a bit rustic, but then it had been open and vacuumed in the fridge for at least a week before I got to it at my sister's house. Very decent for £7 ($11). Good fragrant taste on the end of the palate with the soft tannins. A little heat, but mostly dry, hollow tart cherry and cranberry, with strong acid kick, and heaps of violets / flowers at the end of the middle palate, dying away to a red dry cranberry finish, with oak tannins. The end of the palate is definitely better than the rather harsh attack. Will go well with italian meats and pasta, as expected. 13% alc.
Definitely a good mass-market better-than-average red to go with a good meal (from Casa Girelli). Wonder what this was like when it was first opened. Its longevity suggests it'll last a few years though it's not made for that market. You can certainly keep this one open a few days.
