June 14, 2019 - A 1959 Horizontal Across Champagne, Burgundy and Bordeaux (Le Cinq Restaurant, George Cinq Four Seasons, Paris): The wine took a while to open up and gathered weight with the food. Fully mature. A brooding earthy flavor profile with lots of complexity. A big dark wine.

June 4, 2017 - Tasted blind, this wine had a red center and light orange rims. The medium+ intensity nose wasn't showing much. It seemed more like an ancient CDP rather than a Burgundy. What is counter intuitive about wines like this is that even though they seem like they might be over the hill, they really need air to bring them back to life and resuscitate their flavor profile.

After a few hours, the medium+ intensity nose offered up black cherries, anise, brown spices, and candle wax. As it aired, the wine developed classic Rhubarb notes.

Again, this wine was not particularly special in the mouth for the first hour or two and it slowly came out of its shell. Toward the end, it had light, rounded tannin, solid acidity, excellent balance, and fantastic length. It had a slight roasted quality that suggested a warm year.

This wine moved up from a 92 point wine to 97 over the course of 5 hours in a decanter. Open it early and try not to drink it before it can reveal itself!

December 26, 2016 - Expectations were very high of course and it is always difficult to comment on a wine that is rarely drunk....
Nevertheless what can be said is that it came with a tad of disappointment.
Decanted less than 2 hours before consumption, it showed a beautiful red/orange color, delicate wine with soft tannins, and still present acidity but somehow slightly tart...
Interesting enough, if tasted blind I may even have said "Bordeaux".
Not sure it was worth the price....

March 7, 2016 - DRC Tasting with Grand Millesime (Circa Melbourne): deeply fragrant, with coffee and toffee, but smooth
soft palate, very smooth, with earthy, developed, gamey flavours.
has some zing but clearly on the decline.

(Romanée-Conti La Tâche) What a wine! It's actually a little deeper in colour than all the preceding wines - until you reach the 1990. The sweet nose has truffles and subtle rose petals, slowly expanding to provide a wonderful panorama of notes. Again beautiful texture and volume in the mouth, there's even still a bite of tannin in the finish. Once again a wine that builds and builds in the mouth - Bravo. On this showing as good as the 1978 even if the 78 has a little more aromatic intensity.
