Community Tasting Notes 12

April 11, 2023 - Bottle, fill and cork all good Dark and deep, it needed an hour of decanting. Leather, dark cherry, earth and something faintly floral. Tannins resolved. A big wine that is fully ready and was excellent with lamb stew

August 24, 2018 - Decanted for about 90 minutes before serving with slight amount of sludge like sediment appearing in filter. Dark in color for Brunello and showed no signs of bricking despite the age. The nose was cherry notes with leather and earth. Sour cherry on palate, with earth and balanced acidity. Perhaps a few years past its peak, but still elegant and refined. Thanks Ken and Kris for sharing.

December 15, 2017 - Very dark red for a mature Brunello which is unusual and hints at overextraction. Possible inclusion of other grape varietals. Suprisingly muted on the nose but seems correct with no Brett or TCA.
Initial taste is also muted fruit and indicates the wine may be closed which would be surprising for a 25+ year old Brunello from the 1990 vintage. The wine is all structure with bracing acidity and excess grip. I decide to open a bottle of Barolo and let the Lisini breath. Although it opens slightly over the next hour, it does not improve significantly. Very disappointing for such a generous vintage and barely drinkable even with food. Not flawed but appears to be just poor wine making with over extraction leaving structure far in excess of resisdual fruit. Poor wine or poor bottle?

November 18, 2016 - Really nice Brunello and is great condition. Classic nose of sweet cherry, plumb, tobacco, cedar, mushrooms, orange peel. Still very young in appearance with almost no garnet. Acidity is medium and tannins were integrated. The finish was slightly sour. If the finish were a bit sweeter, I'd give this a few more points. This bottle still has time to mature.

April 15, 2014 - Tuscany holiday spring 2014; 4/11/2014-4/18/2014 (Tuscany (San Gimignano)): Fully mature, lots of bricking around the edges. This was all leather, tobacco and dark cherry wafting through it, decanted and drank over 2 hours and lasted the distance fine, will probably keep some years longer and stay on the plateau
