Community Tasting Notes 10

January 4, 2021 - The darkest and most powerful of the two 2009 contrada's I've drunk (the other being the Contrada R).

Full-bodied without being cloying or overly alcoholic, with a lovely streak of acidity provided tension and backbone. Lovely nose of predominantly red fruits and medium plus length. Still needs time in a decanter before drinking.

April 26, 2020 - I just tried a glass of the 2010, and the nose here is much more evocative. Ripe/sweet fruit, primarily red - the label says 14% alcohol, and I would take the over if this was analytically dissected, as the nose has a "heady" feel to it.

Nicely balanced on the palate - very likable today, and this is the first Passopisciaro contrade wine I've had this past week that actually feels fully mature/evolved.

August 9, 2019 - Floral notes and red fruit on the nose.

Nicely expansive on the palate, but the fruit here is fairly ripe, bordering on overripe. Decent acidity keeps that ripeness in check somewhat - this is good, but I liked the '12 contrada C that I just had a little better.

September 15, 2017 - A "day 2" glass. As typical of Nerello Mascalese-based wines, very lightly colored. A floral note on the nose, back by candied red fruits.

Sweet & sour red fruits on the palate, with good supporting acidity and a decent finish. We gave this wine short shrift last night as it was outclassed by a 2001 Pertimali Brunello, but it is attractive, if less than stellar, by itself.

March 20, 2016 - Translucent ruby in the glass (and not nearly as light-colored as the 2010).

The nose here seems "riper"/more accessible; still red-fruited, with a menthol note as well.

Very smooth and "together" on the palate - if you were drinking these wines blind, you would never guess that this is only one year older than the 2010, as it seems considerably more ready/mature.

I believe this is one of the higher altitude cru vineyards.
