June 9, 2019 - Pristine cork. I just tried a glass of the '90 Scavino Rocche and it is interesting how different this wine comes across. The nose displays that ripe, bordering on overripe, fruit that is characteristic of many wines in this hot vintage.

On the palate, though, the wine is nicely balanced and still supported by adequate acidity - seamless, and all in pretty delicious.

I've opened both bottles for dinner later today, and while I prefer the Manzone right now, it will be interesting to see how they show in about six hours with some food.

October 16, 2017 - A darker translucent ruby in the glass, with a floral nose - roses, menthol and ripe cherries - nice nose.

Ripe, bordering on overripe, red and black fruits on the palate. Still has decent acidity which helps to keep the ripeness of the fruit in check a bit. Good persistence.

My last bottle of a case I bought on release- true to it's modernist roots, the wine drank very well as a youngster. Still enjoyable, if not quite as effusive, at 25+ years.

January 9, 2016 - Medium garnet color. Aromas of red fruits, tobacco and underbrush. Medium-bodied ripe fruit in the mouth with very good depth and length and fully-integrated oak and tannins. Very silky and suave on the palate. Though still surprisingly fresh, the wine is clearly at the far end of its drinking window.

February 11, 2015 - this wine was fine but the bottle was a bit over the hill, color was dark ruby, grainy and opaque, nose was super musty at first and mixed fruit and musty later that night and on night two, palate was consistent across both nights, rich plummy / cherry / dried cherry fruit, relatively primary, tannins gone, soft and smooth mouthfeel, didn't have anything interesting like texture, spice / secondary flavors, etc so i would say simple old barolo without much character, update -- shortly after a wrote this note and had the last large sip from glass and it had added some acid grip and a little spice, therefore took the R up from 89 to 90… i would still drink up, but with long decant
