February 28, 2011 - (Vasconcelos Family). Sat in glass for a bit - mostly get heat in the nose. Sweet on entry, then huge in the middle. Lots of heat in the middle and the finish. Mannie said something about the wines from this family - that they were fortified with rum or some cane sugar spirit. It shows. Nose - 3/6, Palate - 4/6, Finish - 3/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 0/2 = 10/20

February 28, 2011 - Barbeito Madeiras: The 65th Anniversary Celebration (The Modern, NYC): Sourced from the Vasconcelos family. A wine uncovered by Ricardo. Sweet, rustic, but quite enjoyable. A hint of heat, but not off-putting. Ricardo was of the opinion that this wine was fortified with sugar cane rum, and a rum-like nuance is indeed detectable. A wild, untamed, unique wine.
