November 2, 2013 - The first pour was really stinky, like a bad gamay, and disjointed, so I put it aside for a few hours. When I came back to it, it was much better. Dark crimson with some browning. Rich strawberry, crushed raspberry, and earth nose (barnyard was gone!). Medium bodied, cranberries, bright red cherries, pepper, muted but well integrated tannins, smoke, and a medium+ herb-filled finish. Definitely worth the wait.

January 14, 2013 - Decanted 90 mins. ahead. Very dark garnet. Nice but shy nose of black cherries, hard spices, and a floral hint. Rich and full-bodied on the palate, not tart but tending toward softness. Metallic flavors, along with toasty oak and black cherry. Finishes with coffee notes ahead of low grip and low tannins. An intense bottle that seems both richer and less balanced than my last note.

December 13, 2012 - Decanted 1 hr. ahead. Medium ruby color. Nice but shy nose of cherries, redwood, iron filings, hard spices. Both stylish and seductive on the palate, an unusual combination made possible by good acids, rich fruit, and a generous blast of spice flavors. Finishes quickly with light grip, cedary notes, and very low tannins. This wine's medium body and accessible fruit make it delicious; the acid backbone with the wood and spice notes make it memorable. It is not a deeply ambitious bottle but the nuances so enhance its table-wine color and body that I pause and reflect.

June 24, 2011 - Enjoyable and different. The varietal brings rustic Piedmont elements, but the big fruit and strong acidity let you know its from California. Starts with vegetable/green note and red jolly rancher but evolves nicely over two hours to become more elegant and integrated with cream caramel, red fruit, and cigar smoke.
