Community Tasting Notes 10

February 21, 2023 - Good for an 03 but still an 03. Clearly the least interesting wine this evening and miles behind 95 and 99-02 we drank alongside. The old vines though helped to deal with hydric stress but the wine is still too Bordeaux-esque for a Burgundy to be enjoyable to me. I just don't like this vintage.

May 23, 2021 - Dark cherries and fruit with clearly ripe, but not pruney notes. The palate is even riper still, but reasonably well balanced with red fruit, cherries, spices, and plums. Good finish. This drank a bit better on day 2 at closer to cellar temperature.

May 15, 2021 - Dark fruit, cherry, mineral, and earth. It shows the vintages character with its ripe and jammy dark fruit. It should be drunk soon.

December 26, 2018 - Hm. Quite confusing notes on this wine. I more agree with The Wine Advocate (Pierre Rovani, 94 points, 2008-2017) with the exception of the drinking dates of course and the complexity of this great wine.
Ruby with only a minimal orange hue at the rim, if there is any. Cassis, cherries, earthy notes, paprika, cedar, vanilla and licorice. Highly complex and so elegant and drinkable. On the palate good acidity to provide great poise and low levels of backbone tannin combined with intense primary, secondary and tertiary flavors. With some time from the opened bottle getting more vigor. Simply great and still young, but ready to drink! 5/13/19/10 -2028+

November 23, 2018 - Friendsgiving Burgundy Dinner (Scottsdale, AZ): Served blind I guessed 06, surprised on the reveal none of the excesses of 03. But still young. This is certainly one of the more interesting 03’s and will likely be a benchmark for the vintage. Minerality is the most remarkable aspect of this wine at this stage.
