March 10, 2013 - The most youthful of these I purchased at a steal (and my last bottle). Inky midnight black in color, huge on the palate yet entirely youthful and balanced with minerality, BBQ spice, molten chocolate cherry...

May 30, 2011 - Great deal at $25, inky dark, a touch of bret, loads of ultra dark roast espresso and licorice. A dollop of acidity makes it a good food wine.

May 17, 2011 - Nice surprise and a great deal at $25. Inky dark, deep brooding earth meets graphite meets bitter chocolate aromatics. Seamless on the palate, silky and still youthful, with deep dark fruit and sleek disposition.

May 16, 2011 - Not a bad wine at all. Fully mature, the oak well integrated is displays olive, kirsch, garrigue and baconfat. The style is quite balanced in a somewhat modern and very smooth way, no country boy charm here and, I suspect, not as fat and impressive as this would have shown when young. It is ready, but there is no hurry.

Rockss and Fruit

(Francois Villard St. Joseph "Les Reflets") This is my second bottle of two that I purchased for $15 on winebid and is still one of my best wine purchases ever. Had it last around eight months ago and it has calmed down a bit and become silkier. The oak has integrated more and there is a striking elegance on the palate. The nose has smoked meat, blueberries, spice, oak, mint and black cherries. A serious amount of fruit in the mouth with great balance and concentration. Some oak tannins peek out on the finish. There is also a nice cocoa/Valrhona thing going on in the finish. Great wine and perfectly ready to go.

(Francois Villard St. Joseph "Les Reflets") This was stunning juice. I remembered tasting this once around three years ago and was blown away by it. Snatched some for $15 a bottle at Winebid and wish I bought more. Nose of blueberry, raspberry, black raspberry along with soy sauce, game and dark flowers. Smells like serious Hermitage but with much more primary fruit. Explosive palate with dense, ripe fruit and great use of oak that frames it all. Very opulent but retains an elegant balance of fruit, oak, acid and tannin. The oak starts to protrude more as it aereates. The next day it was completely gone (the oak that is).
