Community Tasting Notes 9

July 15, 2022 - I noticed more oak on this than the ‘14 normal St Joseph. Sweet tobacco, cedar, vanilla, ripe blackberry, a little black pepper. I think the oak causes this to lose a sense of place—I’m not sure I could peg this as St Joseph blind. Regardless, the oak is well-integrated and provides a unique vessel for some high quality St Joseph grapes. For my money, I'd rather have two of the normal cuvee but this was a fun change of pace.

May 21, 2022 - Rhone paulee. Very nice wine, but what shines in such exalted company. Shouldn't let that deter me, though. Very nice wine, a little young I think, and I should open one on its own to properly savour and consider it. This is fine St Jo, may turn out to be truly wonderful.

February 7, 2022 - Will T’s St Joseph @ Hawksmoor (Hawksmoor, Guildhall): Bright mid ruby. Nice nose, quite restrained. Quite full, nicely peppery. Lots of interest here. ****

January 29, 2021 - Lots of black currents and very ripe tannins. Long sweet and like drinking velvet.
