Uncorking this bottle is akin to opening a time capsule, transporting me back to a Saturday night in 2001, a night of exquisite pleasures at the esteemed Le Petit Saint Benoit, where the air was filled with laughter, the clinking of glasses, and the lyrical cadence of the French language.
  
  The Musigny pours like liquid garnet, its hue deep and inviting, reminiscent of the velvety Parisian night sky that enveloped us during that memorable evening at Le Petit Saint Benoit.
  
  The first inhalation is like stepping into a fragrant French garden, where the intoxicating aroma of ripe cherries mingles with hints of truffles and forest floor. There's a whisper of oak, a subtle reminder of the barrels that cradled this wine for years, imparting a touch of vanilla that lingers delicately in the air.
  
  On the palate, this Musigny unfolds with a graceful complexity. The taste of sun-ripened red berries dances alongside notes of earthy mushrooms, a delightful homage to the rustic yet refined ambiance of that enchanting evening in 2001.   November 8, 2019 - Musigny 2001 - pure great burgundy nose. For me it Has this signature aroma that all great B’s have. High toned. Precise, beguiling. Perfumed. Palate is airy, all encompassing. Pure kaleidoscopic fruits, a coolness and precision on the palate. This needed a lot more time in air and after leaving a decent pour in a burg zalto for an extended period, the firm finish softened out. That being said, this will definitely benefit from more time in cellar for sure. I would describe it like listening to a classical symphony on a car radio and just as you are getting to the crescendo you drive through a tunnel and the finale is muffled with white noise. Air helped in part to smooth this. so if you are going to open one - give it at least 6 hours with air - or if you have the patience leave it for another 5 years to age in bottle, you’ll be enjoying the full symphony. Interestingly of all the 2001 grand crus from Madame - this is the one that is showing the youngest and most restrained. RSV, Cham, CV, LC, all much more open at this stage.

  August 9, 2014 - Well my third encounter with a Leroy Musigny, this in style and overall characteristics is pretty much like the 01 RSV, luckily was drink side by side. Similar and just as amazing full on Leroy nose, with a palate that is just slightly more sappy and purer fruit. Amazing by any standards but based on memory still being slightly over shadowed by the 02 RSV which is almost as perfect as a red burgundy can get.
