April 14, 2023 - Bürklin-Wolf Tasting with Nicola Libelli (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): Glass: Zwiesel Sensory Burgundy
Tasted blind.
Clear, golden color. Nose with some fine caramel, speck, smoke, ripe fruit? Riesling? Certainly not.
On the palate smoky, dense and deep. Burnt sugar, creme brulee, very salty and mineral, very good balance, beautiful structure. Long! Thank you Marcel for this great opportunity. This is for sure very good, but for me could not compete with the 1999 Bürklin Riesling this evening, because it lacked the tension and energy. 94-95 -

September 19, 2021 - hazelnut, marmalade, honey, toast, warm, cream, fruit, petrol.
It’s fat, m+ acidity, rich and powerful.
Palate is not clean and sharp. It’s relatively heavy and sticky.
Drink right after open the bottle. This bottle still need aeration. -

July 22, 2021 - Reuniting because we can now (Chachama Grill Patchogue, NY): Opened 2 hours prior and replugged. Decanted just before serving. Quite dark golden color. Any concerns were quickly dispatched. Much of the fruit has developed into mature flavors but it remains fresh and vibrant. Over the course of about 2 hours it continues to evolve, deepen and intensify. By the end, the nose is incredible. A wine of great depth and length. Truly Grand Cru and a wonderful experience.

February 1, 2020 - Burgundy Wine Club 10th Anniversary Dinner: Lovely aromatics, great balance between mineral and fruit, complex and clean on the nose. Which is a relief because 50-50 this is pre-moxed. But it wasn't. We loved the nose, but the palate had a bitter edge, and showed hollow in the middle, and none of the poise and complexity, none of the material that the 08 showed. Lovely nose, not a great wine, but that's about 1998, not about pre-mox or anything like that.
