Dark hued fruits, sweet spice, slight mint, Age: shows leather, earthy, dusty notes. Medium plus intensity acidity, mineral, green notes, mint, slight alcohol warmth, red hued fruit opens to show a more darker notes, talc textured tannins, leather.
I guessed 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon but didn't' get any further than it being Australian possibly Coonawarra

April 13, 2014 - Purple/Crimson with a bit of bricking after an hour or two breathing. Still some primary characteristics lingering around but a lovely mature Coonawarra cab first and foremost. Fine tannins that spread around the mouth, medium-long finish and just a bit of acidity left. I'd say it's right in its peak drinking window now, maybe with 1-3 years left in it? But if you have one, drink it because it's very very nice at the moment.

May 26, 2013 - This has aged better than I would have thought. Still dark purple with only a hint of brown on the edges. Drinking well now with notes of lush black fruit, cedar and tobacco.

February 21, 2013 - The nose shows very dark, intense blackberry, with notes of violet, pencil lead and sambuca. These strong flavours persist on the palate, along with an overwhelming inkiness. There's little detectable acid or tannin, so the wine has no structure and has a sickly-sweet cordial character. This is really disappointing; I drank a 1989 a couple of years ago and it was great (and that was from a much, much weaker vintage). Maybe this was just a bad bottle.

February 10, 2013 - A medium to deepish ruby colour, with just a slight weakening at the rim. Impressive for its age. Despite decanting, this begins with a nose and palate that is too woody and my suspicions are that some American oak has been used. There is the cool climate signature to the fruit in the mouth, but it seems unspecial. It improves 2.5 hours later, when some sweet fruit emerges and structural tannins make themselves known. Another hour later, and the palate has mellowed, become less woody and more refined. Certainly, this is more youthful than the 1996 vintage under this label, but it is also a bit of a brute when compared to it. Not better than very good at the end of the bottle. It should have at least another five years in it.
