Community Tasting Notes 5

September 18, 2014 - I bought only two of these and the first was a profound disappointment - overly brick red at the rim and a wine that generally seemed rather dead although no obvious fault could be found . Tonight four years on I expected this to be ropey - far from it - deep red still in colour , a wonderful bouquet of ripe plums, smoke and the very finest dark chocolate . On the palate deeply plum fruited , splendidly balanced altogether excellent - bravo

April 10, 2010 - Some browning but still deep red appearence. Nose of some sweet cherry but more of smoke and meat (bacon?), bayleaf and with hints of violet. The palate brings a fresh attack with medium intesity of sour cherries and animal, almost gamey. Pretty long and fresh finish thanks to the high acidity. The wine drinks fine right now.

October 18, 2007 - Excellent balance, good syrah fruit, no fruit. More interesting than 2 years ago. Liked this!

January 7, 2006 - North Rhône Offline (Rotisserie Jules, South Kensington): Very ripe pig manure on the nose, and it's quite difficult to get past the pong to the fruit, but there is a little strawberry and cherry fruit hidden in there.
Sweet, intense black fruit on the palate: very deep, concentrated, pure fruit. Light-grained tannins on the finish. Some around the table think this is corked. I'm not sure: there's no trace of corkiness on the nose, though there is a certain musty cardboardiness at the edge of the palate. I'd be inclined to think that it's just dirty winemaking though.

January 5, 2006 - King Fung. Decanted an hour, and early in it's drinking range. No poop, but pretty good syrah/earthy fruit, enough to balance the Graillot acidity.
