Community Tasting Notes 5

January 6, 2014 - Decanted for 45 minutes or so, then cooled for about 10 minutes. Paired with chicken in a hot pepper raspberry chipotle sauce. Very nice pairing. Oak in the nose and on the palate, with dark berry on the palate as well. Drink now.

October 28, 2012 - One of many tasted at Debbie and Brad's first wine dinner at Bella Ranch. Bottle decanted for about 20 minutes and then ran through a vinturi when tasting. This one wasn't my favorite, but a lot of people who are Malbec fans really did enjoy this one. The wine poured a dark red, almost black. The wine had an aromatic of dried blackberry and blueberry. The palate was consistent with a lot of restrained blackberry. Leathered mid-palate and finish that was rather soft, not very tannic at all. It was balanced, and like I said, for Malbec lovers this one was probably a 91 or 92. But, if you're middle of the road, it's an 87 at best. I really felt like this one could have shown more than it did, and maybe it's already on the downslope, but I wouldn't bet on it. I think this wine still has 2-3 years left before it starts to plummet...but don't store it over the microwave! If you have this wine, I'm not really sure what to tell you. Drink now, maybe decant 45 minutes. I wouldn't try holding it much longer.

February 29, 2012 - nose: noticeable oak does strike right off the bat along with dark red cherries and berries. The oak isn't too overpowering but it is noticeable

taste: full bodied with medium acidity and a real nice feel. Balanced with tones of dark red cherries, spices, berries and some oak

overall: the oak was more reserved on the palate than the nose. Didn't have any real coarse tannins, so some air would probably be best to let the oak blow off

November 28, 2011 - A very nice QPR Malbec. Good dark fruits with earth, licorice and tobacco, ample tannic backbone, good acidity, and long finish. My only knock would be it comes off a tad thin and lacking some complexity.

November 8, 2011 - Very nice budget Malbec. Lush dark berry and plum flavors. Nicely integrated oak. Voluptuous on the palate without being too flabby. Velvety tannins. Will buy more if I come across it.
