September 20, 2011 - Exploring Navarra, Part 3/3 (Pamplona, Spain): Cherry scents rise from a spicy background made of black peppers and cloves. The nose gives the wine a dark feeling even before being tasted. It delivers a nice touch of fruit when it contacts the palate. Dark and ripe cherries show themselves early. Tannins bloom in the center of the palate, and they run out to the sides drying heavily. Some dried cherry flavors and cloves show on the finish, but the tannins dominate the experience late.
