September 17, 2022 - DAY 1
Served with Vinloq to test how “Slow Decanting” works for this wine
👃Rustic red fruit with a slightly candied edge, wet asphalt, cherry/cranberry with some darker notes. Pretty perfume. Quite nice
👅Earthy red fruit that suggests some whole cluster fermentation. Mostly bright with acidic red currants/cranberry. Less complex than the 👃
The remaining wine was Slow Decanted
DAY 11
👃Dusty, candied cherries and earth. Underbrush. Nice
👅Traditional style pinot with earthy red fruit. Finishes dry with acid/tannic pull on the cheeks. This definitely leans toward its traditional roots
This drank equally well on DAY 1 and DAY 11👏
This Champans certainly delivers authenticity and traditional respect along with lovely aromatics. The nice cherry fruit leaves me craving even more🍇🍷

July 9, 2010 - Surprisingly fruity and full bodied given other reviews. Good earthy smell, pleasantly surprised. Vibrant colour.

December 27, 2008 - Burgundy & other stuff from the cellar (The house): Subtle, yet deep nose of minerals and dirt. Very good terrior in the mouth, with more minerals and dirt but little fruit. Thin, yet with decent depth, if you were looking for it. Moderate acid and tannins; almost sour, but not quite. Medium to long finish with a hint of complexity. A controversial wine, with many unable to get over the thinness and lack of fruit, but others impressed with the obvious terrior, beguiling nose and overall class of the wine. One of the wines I don't really have a clue about in terms of further development, although I've been told by others with more experience in these matters that it could mature into some really interesting secondary flavors in 5-15 years.

May 16, 2008 - I don't have much experience with Montille's reds, as I've actually generally prefered his white. This wine did nothing to change my mind. Fairly pedestrain in style, depth, and not much complexity or interest. Was not expensive, but many village wines from good producer would be more enjoyable, certainly more interesting.
