March 9, 2024 - Dark color. Black cherries, blackberries, and hints of licorice, spice and floral in the nose. Rich flavors, blackberries, black currants, plums and blueberries with hints of coffee and spice. Nice acidity, well balanced and long smooth finish.

March 26, 2023 - Stood for almost two weeks after removing from cellar. First night, aerated, dried berries, no pepper, pleasant. Second night tannins dominated, not pleasant, third night settled down, did not demand attention rather it was a good companion in front of the fire that offered active conversation and some intrigue. I think I will hold my last bottle for another year or so.

February 28, 2023 - Cellared at 55 since purchase in CA. Served with Booker Fracture 2010, Saxum Broken Stones 2012, and Glaetzer Amon-Ra 2004. This Carlisle was a wonderful example of a mature Pelkan syrah. 1 hour decanter before serving, moderate sediment. Deep color, long legs, wonderful nose, dark fruit. Blinded group ranked Carlisle 2nd in the tasting, with the Booker edging it by a titch, followed by Glaetzer and Saxum. Note, Carlisle was the first bottle(s) emptied ... Feels like it has at least 1-2 more years in the cellar. I'm glad I have 3 more.

January 30, 2022 - Very shirt decant. An excellent Carlisle syrah just entering its second stage of development. Very smooth, fruit drive, some spice but not really classic syrah pepper, more like just a bit in the background. There is breadth and depth to this wine with brooding dark cherry, meatyness and a bit of coffee and chocolate. Someone said leather on CT but I get none of that - no similarity to the smooth saddle leather component of Bordeaux. My guess is that this has another 5 years, maybe a decade, to go. I suspect that it will get a bit better over that time, but maybe it plateaus. Another MRO drinking window bites the dust. He suggested 2013 to 2021. I suggest that it's still on the upswing in 2022. 57% new oak, which I suspect it the contributor to the coffee/chocolate component, but after all these years in bottle, there is no oaky, woody flavor.
