April 1, 2022 - Opened for 30 minutes and then double decanted for 30 minutes to be consumed about 2 hours later at our blind CWG dinner.

When I was pouring to the decanter a bunch of gelatinous (jelly) stuff clogged the funnel, I had to used a syringe to push down the wine, then in the decanter a grassy clear stuff stay on top and the walls of the decanter. This is the second bottle I have of this vintage and both times this have happened I don’t know exactly what it’s but I’ll find out and report later.

This wine is dark ruby, full body, perfumes nose, it has a fair complexity and fair finish. I think the 30 minutes double decant wasn’t enough. It’s a good wine but you loss like 10-20 ml when taking out all that gelatin. I think this is likely the lowest scored Roberta’s Reserve but still good, not a good QPR for this vintage.

Everyone at the tasting guessed Cali Cabernet.

  • Mike V Does not like this wine:

March 8, 2022 - We took this bottle to Valley on the Square in Sonoma. The first glass was lovely and then for unclear reasons this wine basically turned into gelatin of Merlot. I've never seen this before it was weird and not good.

April 30, 2021 - Opened for 4 hours and started drinking without decanting. Medium minus body, high acidity and lacking complexity and texture. We decided to decant it and try again in 30 min. It got much better and the body got fuller.

The weirdest thing was a cloudy and grassy “stuff” floating in the decanter. I don’t know how to explain it but it was like trying to mix oil and water. So I filter it using the funnel before serving the last 2 glasses...

Now we are talking, the wine had all the time to opened up and gain complexity and body, also taking out the weird “stuff” helped to have a better taste. You can definitely fell the Cabernet Franc even though it’s only 4% and the chocolate coming from the Merlot. The finish was good and great harmony. Like most threat wines the best sip was the last one...

March 20, 2021 - Nice wine with a good red fruity core on the nose and palate, but really lacking an extra gear or complexity. Tasty but not especially interesting. Relative to expectations disappointing.

June 7, 2020 - Nearly a full glass of gelatinous muck near the bottom of the bottle some of which was floating making it difficult to pour off just a couple of untainted glasses. Never seen anything like this. The wine seemed to taste fine but the shock of the condition of the bottle made an evaluation of the wine challenging.

(Kapcsándy Family Winery Roberta's Reserve State Lane Vineyard) Very dark ruby color; appealing, ripe berry, chocolate, caramel nose; tasty, rich, plush, chocolate, ripe plum, berry palate; long finish (96% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc; a hedonistic treat)
