July 15, 2013 - Inky rosewood color. Popped and poured, the nose is principally woodsy notes as well as aromas of tart currants. More of the same on the palate. Tannins are still tight and astringent. After modest aeration this started to show more nuance, with layers of fruit and spice beginning to emerge. Promising, but I'd recommend several hours of decanting if you must consume this now. A better bet would be to let five years of aging mellow some of the youthful vigor that is restricting the range right now.
