November 11, 2017 - Terra di Lavoro is one of those wines where I keep wondering where the optimal drinking window is. A bit like Barolo in characteristics the wines can be very aromatic but also very tannic in their youth. Having had some vintages from the early 2000s a few years back was curious to see how this wine shows beyond age 20. Pnp and drank over 2.5h. Bottom neck fill and superb, barely stained cork. In the glass the wine shows little evolution with a garnet core and barely any browning towards the lighter rim. Barnyard on the nose, herbal and earthy on the palate with very little dry fruit, while the tannins are fully integrated the wine is very dry With almost no fruit. Did not evolve during the evening. Fairly short finish. Not a great vintage I believe so the answer to the question when to open these wines will have to wait
