December 21, 2018 - Les Barres vertical for 冬至 (Chicago, IL): One of the weaker wines of the lineup to me. Initially, I had some serious problems with this wine, thinking it oxidized (lots of mushroom and browned fruit) and frankly, a bit over the hill, so we set it aside to drink the other bottles (which were great, by the way). At the end of the dinner, I gave this another hit, just to see if it was still as brown and oxidized as it was, and somehow, this picked up some serious freshness. More green, more tart apples, more raciness. Really came into its own, and a lesson about initial impressions.

December 11, 2017 - Some funk. But blew off. Super spicy and brutal on the nose. Golden. Touch of frothy some sort of super burliness that it awesome touch of malt balls. The palate is big with spices and ginger with huge grip. Deep and golden. Bit of apple but mostly spicy ginger and minerals. Finish is brown spices golden. Lovely. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5-5.5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17.5-18/20.

May 16, 2016 - Taken me a while to get here but i can say now and with resolve that although this is well made wine, it is not the the thing that I love in Champagne. The aromas are airy and fresh, and the wine is balanced and has good energy and is very pure. It shows good minerality too. But it is also very broad and oxidative, cidery almost after 45 minutes open, and without the degree of detail and articulation, focus, that I want in a wine of this caliber and price.

February 20, 2016 - Broad and rich with nutty, waxy and oxidative notes. It's not that this isn't fresh, because there's plenty of acidity but it seems to lack a bit of focus and energy. The nose is more interesting than the palate and this kind of falls apart on the finish. Feels very advanced for an '08. Disappointing versus expectations and just okay overall.
