October 22, 2022 - Deep gold in glass. Drank over two nights. Muted nose that never develops much. Nicely rich on palate, slightly unbalanced acid edge to the citrus/mineral tones, modestly rich light apple/yellow stone fruit. Seems all about a lovely texture, a dance of sweet and acidic that is enjoyable. but ultimately more a reminder of what it was than continuing evolution. Still enjoyable but losing ground. One more in cellar, and it'll be opened sooner rather than later.

August 30, 2021 - Fairly rich. Maybe some RS or a bit of botrytis, but delicious just the same.

August 26, 2019 - My final bottle of Bournais. The color on this is becoming pretty gold in tone. Not sure what to make of that but I offer it for those who know more than I do about Chenin as it ages. Yesterday, the wine was squarely about acid, with that acidity overtaking any fruit that was there. My wife and I drank a glass each and then just tossed the bottle into the fridge. Today, the fruit is showing more, pulling together an apple, tart nectarine, lemon and a waxy tone. The acidity then closes the wine with a bitter note. I don't like the balance on this wine, as it's just a little fierce in acid that it just overshadows the fruit. Will retry again tomorrow and hope for better but I am not hoping for much.

June 16, 2019 - This is spectacular - I generally prefer older chenin but Chidaine really seems to peak here in early middle age. Intense, rich, saturated fruit with equally intense acidity. It’s like a grand cru Chablis from a perfect vintage. Limestone magic.

Un grand blanc, splendide.1 person found this helpful Comment
