September 28, 2022 - UNP. I have been checking in on my 2010 rieslings and had this last 7 years ago. Color is light gold. Nose has just a hint of flint with peach and lemon rind. Swishing this shows a perfect balance between acid and RS. There is some residual sugar but at cellar temp this seems to be esterifying and integrating and totally seamless. Finish is super clean and med long propelled by the soft acids. My previous intuition that this will go the long haul was reinforced tonight. Will ideally wait 10 yrs to try again because I like them that way :) just delicious

April 8, 2022 - Golden yellow in the glass. The nose doesn’t give much away. Peaches and honey on the palate, much sweeter than expected for a kabinet but enough acidity to carry it. Better cold!

July 14, 2019 - Nine years from the vintage, this remains quite youthful, with the bright, bracing 2010 acids setting the tone. It’s very rich and sweet for a Kabinett, but that is typical for the ultra ripe 2010 harvest. It’s still amazing how much acidity was retained at such high ripeness levels. This feels like ripe Spatlese, and is likely immortal. Oh yeah, it also tastes really good, with honeyed citrus fruit and salty finishing tang.

January 7, 2019 - Soft, fresh and delightful if not a little simple. Fine with non-spicy Szechuan.

January 3, 2019 - Still life here, with plenty to offer of its former self. Apricot, pears and slate bouncing off each other, with some rubber bookending things. Pleasant. Like late-stage Michael Jordan in Charlotte, where he was still occasionally doing Jordan-y type things. Felt like it would have been more at home in a cheese course, with '09 and '11 vintages of riesling kabinett, to show just how wild the 2010 acid was in comparison.

But with Sean Brock rabbit stew and dumplings, it missed on providing bounce, weave, dart and dunk. ($25 - WDC)

(Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett) ($29.00) It’s amazingly generous of Johannes to even make this wine for us. It’s his top single-site, and no way is it remotely a “Kabinett,” yet he gets it to work almost spring-y; sharp-chiseled site aromas sing blazing clear from the glass. As expressive, deep and brilliant as many vintage’s Späts; all Fuder, 50% sponti; silky and murmuringly soul-deep.
