March 16, 2024 - Beautiful and deep burgundy in colour with the expected clay edges. As the evening wore on the wine opened up beautifully. For those of you that have posted negative reviews, you either don’t understand what a 30+ year old Brunello Reserva should taste like or you don’t have a properly operating cellar. The wine was perfect for its age. Still good fruit with tons of structure. Beautiful wooden and cigar tobacco notes. Dark 90% choc with a bit of fruit cake. This is all on the nose. In the mouth, the mouthfeel is excellent for its age with still a silky and smooth texture. Feels like 2% milk. The palate shows stewed red berries with lots of old world flavours. The wine actually got better after an hour of oxygen. Livio at 97 knows how to make wine! This bottle was purchased ex cellar. Bravo!

January 12, 2024 - From the same 3-bottle lot. PnP. Very similar notes to the one in 2022. Unfortunately. It may even gone downhill further. There was dried fruit and leather initially but slowly disappeared and dominated by the acidity, almost cranberry-like, and even a slight bitterness.

July 23, 2022 - Brought to dinner with friends who were married in 1990. The bottle was an auction purchase earlier in the year.

Cork came out in one piece. Color was, for a 30+ year old wine, as one would expect - browning at the edges but with a deep crimson core. The initial nose was like a used leather baseball glove found in a horse stable. Most of the barnyard blew off eventually to reveal a layer of dried red fruit. Medium bodied and silky with the acid dominating the remaining red fruit. Friend thought he picked up stewed notes. I didn’t think there were. However I am 3 weeks post Covid. Who knows?

Nonetheless it was a good wine, not great. I’ve had much better ‘90 Brunello Riservas in the last five years.

May 6, 2022 - Good Times in Seattle vol.II (84 Yesler, Seattle WA): This took a little bit to open up and uncoil. When it did, it was a nose to get lost in with deep and savory aromatics of licorice, sour red cherries, raspberries, spice notes, tobacco, violets, wild flowers, and leather. The Medium bodied feel is pure satin and deep with crisp, medium+ acidity and resolved, medium tannins. This is a drop dead gorgeous and fully mature Brunello where you just want to spend time with and take it all in.
