Community Tasting Notes 9

June 9, 2022 - 2628. Not enough air re the stewed heat of the vintage before we finished the bottle. However, the purity and structure among the heavy fruit of the old school winemaking suggest, yet again, that it is capable of delivering great pleasure. 94

June 1, 2022 - 2634. Initially thought to be heat damaged but the resurrection came after two hours. So much structure, finesse and texture this is truly Mortet’s most prized village possession. Stunning stunning, easily WOTN (ahead of Leroy). 94-95

October 1, 2021 - Denis Mortet horisontal vintage 2003 Winetasting dinner (16 btls) (Nordsjælland): Tasted 11 cuvees from Denis Mortet vintage 2003 and 5 other domaines for comparison reasons. We are talking about one of the most criticized vintages, but the tasting was a surprise. I gave 90 points or more to 9 out of 11 cuvees. All wines were garnet in color showing the tertiary development stage, but not too much, which I personally find un charming. The winner was Le Chambertin which I scored 97 closely followed by Clos de Vougeot (96). No. 3 was Lavaux St. Jacques (93).

This wine: The darkest color in this flight of 3 wines. Pretty concentrated fruit of strawberry and redcurrant. Closed in the beginning but opens up greatly in the glass after some time. On the palate acidity is medium, tannin high and intensity is medium. I rated it 91+ in the beginning but ended with 93 after some time. Can drink now but also suitable for further ageing. Impressive for Village level

November 14, 2020 - No. 4482. Impeccable balance and sweetness. Red-blue fruit, rose petals, meaty, high alcohol, transcendent heat and ripeness. On the palate superbly focused, a punch of strength at its core, yet linear, elegant and seamless. Getting rounder and rounder; just amazing. 94

March 19, 2011 - no question about it, a very good wine. But if that were served blind, I wonder how many people would have guessed it as Burgundy. The color, the nose, as of yet, the earthy, leathery, deep ripe fruits, the round, smooth texture etc... would have lead many, many passionate wine lovers towards the northern Rhone. I personally would have guessed it somewhere around Cote Rotie, which I very much like it anyway! I guess the style of the maker, the vintage, the village all got together to give such a profile. By the way, I think this would be much better in about a good 5 years time. Still very closed nose, on the palate a very 'vin gourmand'.
