January 4, 2021 - Honey colored but still lively. White flowers, grapefruit, wet stones, and a touch of lime. Overtly sweet at the outset but finishes with spice and still-plentiful acid. Lingers for a long time.

December 3, 2019 - Purchased 8 bottles at Spectrum auction at a felony theft price. The wine was clearly properly stored, so this note is how a representative bottle of this gem should taste. All three bottles I have opened are consistent. This is/was a face melting explosive white fruit auslese (although labeled a spatlese with that special "*" indicating that this wine is a shooting star) with perfect balanced acid. Rich golden color, but no oxidation whatsoever. Metal seal with a glass enclosure. A crystal field of tartrates on the bottom of the bottle, so be careful pouring the last few ounces. Are there any more of these beauties out there in the world? BTW, I would fight to the death to defend the 94 score as it is so well deserved.

March 13, 2019 - I have purchased Kerpen artist label for many years, from wine shops in California and for some reason I did not buy any 2010. I went to a online auction site in CA and bid on 9 bottles. I received a box with 1 bottle that had a label and all other bottles the labels were off? I tasted one of the bottles and shared it with a few of my locker friends and we all agreed this was a bad wine, it was very acidic. I was able to get the auction to take this wine back. I will never buy from this auction site again. I love Kerpen, I have many cases in most vintages from 2007 up. This wine was totally undrinkable, it did not smell bad, or taste bad, but just did not go down right.

August 11, 2012 - Aromas of ruby grapefruit, pear, and candied tangerines. Great brightness on the fruit and attack on the palate. Acid was on the lighter side, will drink well young.

June 30, 2011 - Tight and clean but not very expressive. There is length so there could be hope for future blossoming.

(Kerpen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese* Artist Label) ($36.00) Our little bird in his jaunty boat. Here’s a wine rich enough not just to manage but to warrant its botrytis; a very concentrated mega-Spätlese; has the toasty singe like a ’93, a very easy wine to read and like, all apple-butter and candied lemon, with an almost buttery finish.
