June 25, 2022 - PNP. Cork wet almost to top color straw. Nose has some citrus and hint of herbs . Swishing shows super acidity but also RS. This seems in perfect balance. Super long on the finish. Sipping shows richness but the acid keeps it from being heavy. This is stunning and has a long life ahead. Will wait 5-10 to try again. Probably 10

October 2, 2020 - PNP. Cork wet halfway up but intact. Color light gold. Nose shows citrus leaning toward grapefruit. Swishing shows brisk acidity and the RS is cloaked by it. Sipping allows the RS to be noticed but the acidity wins out. Finish is lengthy and pleasant. Thinking this will be better w more time and intend to wait for future bottles

January 15, 2013 - Light lemon-green in appearance, nose of very honeyed green fruits, apple, pear, quite a slatey mineral note. Almost a hint of botrytis on the nose. Quite complex for it's price. Medium-sweet on the palate, plenty of baked apple, alongside fresh green apples and pears, and very good cleansing acidity. Balanced, good length, overall impression is very good quality, but could maybe benefit from a year or two more in bottle.

July 12, 2012 - Dinner at Eleven Madison Park (Eleven Madison Park, New York): A pleasant little Spätlese. I really liked the nose here - a bit grassy, a little flowery, with honeysuckle accents shading nice scents of nectarines and white peaches, along with a nice slatiness in the background. There was a touch of sulphur on the palate, but not quite enough to distract from powerful flavours of honey and nectar, and sweet red apples and white peaches moving into a slightly floral finish. Still bit primary, a bit sugary sweet, but this had plenty of supple acidity that kept it freshly balanced. Nevertheless, it really needed some food to show well, with a nice foie gras pairing drawing out more nuanced notes of mineral and spice. This seems to have put on quite a bit of weight over time compared with earlier notes on CT, but it needs quite a bit more time yet. Pretty good though.

May 9, 2012 - Grand Sichuan (St. Marks Place Grand Sich, NY): Classic Mosel Riesling; pale, fresh citrus and apple fruit tinged with floral and mineral flavours on a lightweight frame with gentle sweetness and a powerful spine of acidity. It's not overly complex and more about sheer refreshment right now, but there's excellent focus and clarity to the flavours and it's all too easy to drink.

(Merkelbach Kinheimer Rosenberg Riesling Spätlese) ($22.00) Another masculine wine here, almost stern. The vintage makes itself at this address. These are the branches and twigs of Rosenberg, not the apple. Long and markedly slatey. Tastes Feinherb. A remarkable new view of Merkelbach. 115° Oechsle. (wha???!) RS of 71g is essentially invisible. Cuddle up to the very bones with this wine!
