December 5, 2016 - Medium yellow with a tropical nose. Great acidity with the pronounced flavor of passion fruit. There's a slight bit of spritz on the concentrated palate. The acidity brings the wine slightly out of balance but this is still delicious and finishes long.

April 20, 2013 - Very pleasant dessert wine; not as sugary as many auslese - positive in my book - excellent fruit balance with pear overtones

December 22, 2011 - Honied and rich with slatey minerals. Great freshness and hints of candy. Medium-bodied but feels a bit richer. Great focused and concentrated sweet citrus flavors with grapefruit nuances. Bright acidity. A super lively Auslese with laser focus. (**)

September 2, 2011 - Dried herbs set the tone which meld with rich hardened honey comb aromas; nice and rich, but balanced with great intensity; long finish. Red slate soils; this is very good.

June 30, 2011 - Classic Riesling character in a very fresh package. Nicely tart. Fresh and vibrant enough that its not even clearly Auslese. Very good.

(Merkelbach Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese) ($24.00) A delirium of spice here! Peppermint and kiwi and scorched slate, a surmise of strawberry beneath an iridescent avalanche of spice and mint and slate.
