August 3, 2016 - It still had a lot going on for its age. Tart and slightly bitter but a pretty nice wine from a very good producer.

July 30, 2014 - Really nice wine. To us, it wasn't that great by itself, but with some food (we had it with cheese and a salad) it couldn't be beat. I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a bottle of this for with pizza, cheesy pasta, or any other sort of creamy or cheesy Italian/Italian-American dish.

Aerated into decanter and poured the first glass right away. Color was garnet with some bricking on the edges. Nose featured smoked almonds, a hint of cherry, and a funky note a little bit like balsamic vinegar. (Which, in retrospect, sounds like the beginnings of a tasty salad.) This was a pretty dense wine with firm structure and above-average acidity. Dried cherries were strong on the palette in addition to something toasted or caramelized. Tannins were strong; we needed food to keep them in check. Finish tended toward the acidic side, but was pleasant and average length.

Tannins and acidity are there to support more bottle-aging of this wine, so perhaps another year or two will see even more improvement. For now, we call this "very good," 86/100.

April 27, 2014 - Good quaff. Nothing overly complex. At 12.5% alcohol is pleasant and easy to drink.

April 26, 2014 - Pours dark ruby red/purple. On the palate, it's fresh and grapey, with hints of cherry and raspberry. Bone dry finish with a slight bitterness reminiscent of baker's chocolate. Significant tannic kick too. Very good with mushroom risotto.
