Community Tasting Notes 5

July 9, 2021 - A sensational wine that brings a mixture of the best characteristics of Bordeaux and McLaren Vale together. Only just starting to show signs of ageing, wish I had more. Could go another 5-10 years

June 30, 2020 - Overdelivered on a nigh-complete absence of expectations. Not overly unctuous or jammy, black fruit now wedded to some tertiary notes that deepened the whole: earth, shrooms, sour tomato paste, black salt licorice. Would buy more if I could right now, it was so great with a rib cap.

March 27, 2016 - Superb and plenty of legs left

  • henrygjeffreys Likes this wine:

February 6, 2016 - very aromatic nose, touch medicinal
Rich wine, big mouthfeel, nice balance
    Long and toasty
    Around £18

May 30, 2014 - {screwcap, 14.5%} Still very dark and youthful-smelling. There is some telltale leafy cabernet/currant arom, shot through with dark eucalypt and coconut oak. Plus a hint of rustic malbec quality. The palate is farily smooth and modern, with soft dusty tannins, unobtrusive acid, a warm McLaren Vale mien, and a dense, warm, black-fruited finish of medium-length. This is competant, but a touch anonymous. More time won't hurt, though. Even ten years might allow some mellowing, but it's not destined to be transcendent...
