March 28, 2021 - I'm quite a bit above average on this wine - it definitely surprised me to the upside. Coming out of the bottle, it displayed a really beautiful crimson brick color with a medium/light body. Given some of the other reviews said the wine has faded a bit, we drank this undecanted and this turned out to be a mistake. Nose was still fresh and full of life - initially there was menthol, leather and over the course of the evening you got a bit more "darker" with black licorice and anise coming to the forefront. Palate displayed very grippy tannins, I'd even say they overpowered the fruit just a touch. Nice flourish of red licorice coming out, particularly toward the end of the evening. The QPR here is off the charts. I'm not sure I'd mistake this for an elite single vineyard Barolo, but this terrific bottle is well made, well-structured and current tannins suggest it still has some life ahead of it.
