December 20, 2015 - Needs time to open. Decant at least an hour before drinking.

November 20, 2014 - Low-key Zin. Flavor is all on the finish. Long peppery finish. A little more complexity needed to drive the score into the 90's. Very versatile. Does not require food to be enjoyed. We had this bottle with lasagna!

January 5, 2013 - See my 8/1/12 notes. Consistent. This is also spot on with the D-G tasting notes. It's nice when a producer's notes are right on the mark. This is a very versatile food wine. The acidity and bright red fruits mean it matches up really well with a wide range of foods. For example, the balsamic chicken my daughter cooked for us tonight. There are bigger and more explosive Cali zins that would be better to drink alone, but this one is still quite tasty.

August 1, 2012 - This bottle tasted much better than my 5/4/12 bottle (which I now think must have been defective). Nice garnet color on this wine; different from the deeper tints that you may see in other zins. It's a zin with a brighter fruit profile. It's not big and jammy, which is OK, on the other hand, it definitely has more zest to it than zins that are more understated. Very little of the pepper taste that often is experienced. A really nice accompaniment to the chopped salad and pasta with red sauce I was enjoying. More of a food wine. Drank about two-thirds of the bottle: we'll see what it's like on the second day, whether it softened.

May 4, 2012 - Not going to rate this wine. It did not taste like any zin I had ever tasted (in a bad way). It was hot. Also very acidic, almost like a really new Grenache or a Beaujolais nouveau. It was neither big and jammy, like some Cali zins, nor subdued, tannic and dusty like others. It was just not good. Purchased at the Dutton tasting room Autumn 2011, and have three more bottles in my cellar. There was no sign of cork failure, so I hope the other bottles are better.
