January 2, 2024 - In a great spot right now, especially from magnum. Still has life ahead, but in a really lovely spot right now

May 21, 2023 - Part of a home vertical tasting with 2000, 2006 & 2012. The 2000 was the star, holding up incredibly well given the age.

No hint of aging or tertiary notes on the nose, ever so slight bricking on the rim, and a beautiful mushroom/ bandaid tertiary note on the finish. Black fruits, fine, elegant, tannins are almost not present. Incredibly well made wine in the more restrained style.

    Simply a standout!

September 7, 2022 - This wine drank perfectly with an amazing veal meal. Another Montelena aging very well.

January 18, 2022 - Soul-searching in Napa. Beta-Jasud, Roy Piper, Detert, Elyse, Diamond Creek, Favia, Opus, Gargiulo, among others!; 1/17/2022-1/22/2022: Tasted at Montelena as part of their Estate Tasting experience. Brief notes.

"Little bit of bricking at the rim. Nose is all age. Secondary and tertiary. Cedar, cigar box, dried leaves, pipe tobacco. Dried currants. Palate retains loud of young red and dark red fruit. Good acid, smooth tannins. Finish is shows a touch of aged character that quickly gets replaced by red fruit and acid. Slightly drying tannins but beautifully integrated, very fresh. Drinking excellent now with good life left. Feels quite young other than the nose. 93"
