October 11, 2021 - Do I dare open this tonight? Famous last words! Sometimes you think that all of the stars have aligned--and then find yourself wishing you'd just opened a Langhe Nebbiolo, instead of plucking an angles wings. Upon pop and pour you might have thought that there was something wrong with the 2005 Barolo Riserva Vigna San Giuseppe, so muted and coy. However, two hours into the game, and this sleeping giant begins to slowly wake from its slumber. Bright cherries encased in a cloud of smoke and crushed stone come together with dusty rose and lavender to form its enthralling bouquet. Like pure silk it enters the palate, yet there's a core of grippy tannins enshrouded within, as tart red berries. plum skins and savory spices collide against a wall of structure that makes it all too clear that this was opened too early. That said, there's plenty of pleasure to be had, returning to the glass to take in its heady perfumes. In the end, the 2005 needs more time, yet it will be time well spent.

April 3, 2021 - Splendida bottiglia, 2005 annata in perfetta finestra di beva. Vino ricco che ha perso ogni spigolosità, si lascia bere che è un piacere. Non aspettereinoltre ad aprirlo.

March 13, 2021 - Not a good bottle. Way to ahead. A disappointment.

December 29, 2020 - Barolos and White Truffles at Home (Newk's hideout, Bucktown, Chicago, IL): Nose: The nose is perfumed and red-fruited, filling the glass with red cherries, strawberries, raspberries, licorice, tobacco, earth notes, spice, violets, and roasted herbs. There is something very soulful to this as you just get lost in the depth.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with tart, high acidity and fine grained, high tannins. The tannins are noticeable, but they have pulled back a little bit leading into an expressive and deep feel of red cherries, strawberries, raspberries, licorice, earth notes, roasted herbs, and violets.

Overall: This is fully open for drinking with a few hours of air. This is a wonderful Barolo that shows off so much class and elegance.

December 25, 2020 - Loved this! Elegant floral nose of violets. Sipped- tar and liquorice undertones, sour cherries and pomegranate mid palate- big, burly, tannic and grippy mouthfeel. Masculine and impressive. Super with food.
