February 3, 2014 - Prickly pear aromas. Young and tame aromas. Obvi, not lots of complexity yet. Fresh orange. Tart orange. On the palate, super clean flavors, orange. Tree and citrus fruit.

March 29, 2013 - Ordered a half bottle at McCrady's in Charleston and very happy we did. Paired with pork belly, mussels and fish dishes. Exceptional, bright nose, flush with lean autumn fruit, mineral/stoniness and acidity. Complex and immensely rewarding.

January 26, 2013 - Nez sur le citron avec des notes de pétrole laissant qui font penser au Riesling. En bouche le vin est vif mais présente une belle matière mûre ou les arômes d'agrume ressortent avec une finale sur des beaux amers. Belle harmonie.

January 5, 2013 - Originally tasted at the Winery in October 2012. Ordered a half bottle off the wine list at the Gramercy Tavern in NYC yesterday. White wine doesn't get much better than this. Straw color. Nose of pear, quince, and pepper. Full palate of pear, quince, tropical fruit, pepper, and minerals. Superb length. Mouthwatering acidity. Wonderful with food. Who says Gruner can't be profound?

2011 Austrian Catalog, 5/1/2011 (link)(Hirsch Grüner Veltliner Heiligenstein) ($31.00) Quite the big swollen aroma here, rich and primordial; the brightness and steely lift of this wine are remarkable and lovely. I’d trade triple the fruit this wine yields, in order to get this expressive structure in return. It reminds me of the ’02, ringently alive, and with a kinetic dialogue of flowers and steel.
