August 9, 2012 - Magnum. Rather an ambitious style of Loire pinot from the talented Balland sisters, this sees about 60% new oak and it shows on the nose with a warm, opulently spicy quality overlaying the fruit. It's rather sensual, in fact, for a Sancerre rouge, lacking any of the angularity that normally marks out this region's style of pinot, and it's also surprisingly approachable too. I can see how some might say it's overoaked, but I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt because the oak is really handled very well and the acidity is bright and savoury.

January 29, 2012 - Never encountered a red Sancerre before. Similar to a Cotes du Rhone. Tannic and light in flavor.
