April 14, 2024 - 1/2, vg cork. Decanted and immediately served.
Medium/deep garnet core, pale rim. Rich, ripe fruited nose, red and blue fruits, spice, vanilla. Quite perfumed too, touch of Xmas cake. Full bodied, rich, full and ripe with cherry and damson, touch of leather coming through, lovely contrasting fresh acidity, good length harmonious finish. Enjoyed this and it's ready to go. Now and next 3-5 years.

December 27, 2023 - Unfortunately was past its prime. Lasted 25 minutes. Initial fruit was blueberry pie and as expected, not much tannin left but enjoyable until about 30 minutes in when it was musty and undrinkable. Giving it a 90 from first tasting

November 23, 2023 - After all these years, still a bit of acid and low tannins but structure

September 5, 2023 - This was a bit too new world style for me. It is a bit heavy handed in alcohol and black fruit profile. I have a few left and plan to drink them up.

July 21, 2023 - * Decanted for 90 minutes before serving with homemade Boeuf Bourguignon, which paired very nicely.

I was particularly intrigued to taste the '07 Grandi Annate, after enjoying a great experience just a few weeks ago with the superb 1997. Thankfully, the 2007 did not disappoint.

Upon opening, the wine displayed a dark core with some lighter garnet tones on the edges. Very lively with a hint of age beginning to show. On the nose - pronounced notes of raspberry and licorice, with more subtle chocolate, spices and even kirsch in the background. Almost gives the sense of a lovely, aromatic chocolate candy box. Expressive and enticing.

In the mouth, on first sip (before decanting) the flavors were there, though slightly muted and hidden behind some grippy tannins. But 90 minutes in the decanter was all it took for the wine to start singing - displaying a round, plush mouthfill, sumptuous dark fruit, more chocolate and raspberry, velvety tannins and a delicious finish that leaves you wanting for the next sip.

A real superb effort, on par with the terrific '97. Still in the early to mid stage of its prime drinking window, so you can enjoy this now with a 60-90 minute decant, or wait 3-5 years and perhaps enjoy even more secondary complexity.

Great stuff, meritting a terrific 92 points on the night.
