March 31, 2020 - Only opened up in the decanter after almost 2 hours. High alcohol, green tea, damp cloth, beetroot, earthy, black berries in the nose. Quite strong acidity and grippy tannins with a strong red fruits backbone. Elegant, Yet punchy. This is still a wild horse to be tamed, yet with some signs of tiredness. Interesting combination, not an easy one, complex. Adventurous, makes you want to wait a little take another sip to see where it may take you this time...

December 1, 2019 - Deep dark colour, some garnet at the rim. Four hours' air before last night's first taste. Finishing most of the bottle on the second night with dinner, writing this TN. It has improved from last night, so - if you open a bottle - give it plenty of oxygen before serving ... On the nose, camphor, polished mahogany dresser, tons of tar, black cherries, espresso and traces of menthol and black pepper. Overall, a sense of serious woody new oak ... In the mouth, bitter, astringent tannins, that expand across the palate, gripping the back palate particularly hard. Very dark fruited with black soil, high cacao chocolate, creosote, espresso and graphite. Better with - and balanced somewhat by - food. Nice acidity and - I suspect - good ripe, rich fruit, but it's swamped by the oak. All Barbaresco - let alone Basarin - typicity or terroir is buried. I understand that Barbaresco 2008 is a backward (and great) vintage but I have serious doubts that the fruit here, formidable though it may be, can ever eat this volume of barrel tannins ... Perhaps give it 5+ years, more in hope than expectation ... Disappointing.

August 15, 2018 - - Garnet color - In a very nice spot now. Rick velvety and soft tannins. Decanted for about 45 minutes and through dinner open up more. Awesome.

February 27, 2017 - A very nice barbaresco. Lots of fruit, soft tannins and a long finish. Awesome.
