May 25, 2013 - Up a point from last time, making this a ridiculous QPR. Having learned from the past, I let this breathe for 2 hours before pouring. Tight on the nose, with an acrid of tar and dark fruits. The new oak vanilla has faded nicely on the palate in contrast to previous bottles, and there is fine acidity which allows this to pair well with food (in our case, tri-tip and grilled corn). This reminds me in some ways of the Chapoutier Côtes du Roussillon Villages Bila-Haut, fresh and with nice depth, but is an even better value at under $10 in the US.

    January 2, 2013 - Medium-bodied, good QPR.

January 1, 2013 - Even at $8 a bottle, my first reaction was to dump this plonk after first tasting the tannic mess. When I wandered back to the open bottle a day later, I was shocked to find an enticing blend of dark cherry and vanilla spice, even a medium finish. The moral of the story is to decant and have a nice quaffer, not bad from a 2009 this early in its life. Enjoy through 2014-15.
