Community Tasting Notes 5

April 6, 2016 - This Priorat has a medium ruby red color and a nose of ripe blackberries, licorice and menthol. It tastes of dark fruit, mainly blackberries, tart cherries, and plums along with pepper, and fully integrated oak. It is balanced and soft on the palate, medium to full-body with well integrated tannins. It's fully mature and drinking well now.

The importers web site notes: The Ardevol family has been growing grapes in the village of Porrera since the 13th century. Anjoli is the name of the adopted daughter of Rose Galceran, one of the partners of Celler Ardevol. This Ardevol Anjoli is a blend of 40% Grenache, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah, and 20% Merlot. The wine was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks before aging for 16 months in French oak barrels.

May 24, 2013 - Dark purple with a crimson/ruby colored rim. Savory aromas of ripe berries, and cherries. This wine has tastes of tart cherries, ripe blackberries and plums, chocolate, and vanilla. It also has notes of pepper and spice. It improved greatly with decanting and in-glass time. Nicely crafted and medium to full bodied. It is well balanced and round. Finishes nicely with smooth tannins.

September 20, 2012 - After 4 hours in the decanter: Beautiful nose of plums and red berries with a touch of dark chocolate. Very dark blueberry fruit driven with prunes and a high acidity, in the background noticeable oak but very well integrated. Quite a bunch of tannins as a backbone here, good long finish with revolving berry tastes and again dark chocolate. Full but not fat, agile but not light, very alive and drinkable - this wine never shows its 14,5% alc - very good. Drink now and over the next 5 years.

April 16, 2012 - Aroma: fresh cherry, licorice, burnt sugar Palate: smoky, burnt caramel, huge coffee component - gets more and more bitter.

October 11, 2011 - Tested on well-aired bottle, about 2 hrs, but ready to go as pop-and-pour too. Pleasurable, well-balanced, well-integrated, nicely textured, slightly airy wine with distinctive mineral, metal, and slightly sour intense rich fruit (cherry, raspberry seemed to grow dominant) balanced against almost-metallic mineral and cedar-peppery spices and savory notes. Fruit intensity deepened with air time. Consistent performance both with air time and from nose through attack and mid-palate and into the finish, yet added some heft and complexity with air. Body medium, acid medium, tannin medium. 14.5% abv. 40% Grenache, 40% Cab sauv, 10% Merlot, 10% Syrah (to be verified). QPR very good at USD20 - I bought two more bottles. Maybe even 91 pts.
