July 17, 2011 - Definitely passed it's prime, but it was drinkable. Red in color with no coppering around the edges, looked like young wine. Tight nose, but it had hints of tobacco, leather and cherry. No acid No tannin. Tasted of mostly of earth and minimal amounts of red fruit.

May 17, 2004 - Monday, May 17, 2004 Opened and poured in glasses, but left to sit for about an hour. We managed to keep our hands off it by sipping a little Barboursville Sparkling wine provided from the restaurant’s list while we enjoyed soups and apps. As soon as the wine found its legs it established itself as opaque with deep plum near the rim and some bricking on the rim. The nose consisted of plum, coffee, cassis, and dust elements. The palate was lighter than I’d expected. A medium bodied wine with fully integrated tannins. Flavors of plum, cassis, coffee, rosemary, dusty tea rose, lavender. More coffee and spice with the strip steak (with coffee and ground pepper sauce), but the lavender came thru in full blossom with the bone in veal chop. The contrasting profile of the wine was stunning, but regardless of the food pairing, the dusty, tea rose flavor shone thru. While not velvety in texture the mouthfeel was supple. Nicely balanced. The finish was fine but shorter than I’d prefer. Pre-anniversary celebration.
