October 22, 2023 - Dark garnet color with only minimal bricking at the rim
Intense aromatics - red/ black fruit with secondaries of graphite/ cigar box/ leather with mint and jalapeño pepper - barely notable and well integrated oak aromas as well - very complex nose with secondaries and even tertiary notes present but with plenty of bright fruit remaining
Medium plus bodied with palate of red cherry and dry herbs with hint of green pepper
Medium plus tannins - fine and well integrated with medium alcohol and medium plus acidity
Long finish - very well balanced and remains so youthful despite being 28 yrs old
Such a classic and well crafted wine! -Drinking beautifully today but appears to have years remaining
My tasting partner called this left bank Bordeaux and I can see how - seems so much more Bordeaux-like than any other Ca Cab Ive had in the past

    October 15, 2023 - Double blind tasting
    Dark garnet with bricking
Aromatics medium +. Dry herbs and vegetables. Dust. Bell pepper. Dark plum. Graphite. Some well integrated new oak.
Palate has a medium + body. Acid medium +. Tannins medium +, medium grained on upper palate but well rounded at this stage. Alcohol medium. Cherry, plums and green bell peppers
Finish has a medium + to long length. Balanced
I guessed a left bank Bordeaux, 2011. Seemed like a nice example for me of this region, but never considered a California cab given my lack of exposure to those older wines from CA.
I would drink now given the tertiary aromatics

September 2, 2023 - Same notes as my tasting note from 6-12-21, but 1 point less as it was not quite as vibrant as last year.

August 6, 2023 - We all found this terrific, surely no reason to wait longer, but validated keeping a few bottles all this time. Complex, fully evolved, long finish. Could have been a topnotch left bank

February 19, 2023 - A big wine that has aged gracefully over almost thirty years. The core of ripe blackberries and black plums retained their charm as they weaved through the savory layers of smoke and herbs. Mellow spices, wafts of cigar box, and sour cherry hold the mid-palate together beautifully.

As another member at the table described it: "Bordeaux with some California sunshine." I thought it was spot-on. This is drinking near what I think is its peak - I'm glad it got opened now.
