May 22, 2019 - Wow! Tasted blind, I definitely thought this was Bordeaux. Then I was informed that it was not Bordeaux, and I said "Musar?". Nope. Black, blue, and red fruits; distinct cassis and black cherry, but lots of other fruity flavors too. Very pure. Lifted wafting aromas of tabac and flowers, both acrid white flowers and sweet spicy lavender; suspicions of vanilla bean, leather, and prunes. Ripe, for sure, but not at all what I'm used to when it comes to Cali Cab. This was unique. Deep and textured, seamless and dense, long and staining, yet as elegant and cleansing as spring water. This is what Cabernet Sauvignon can be, but only so many inform us so.

May 8, 2019 - Philip Togni vertical (1983-96) (Chicago, IL): I really loved what was going on in this bottle (or perhaps, what wasn't going on). It's a wine that definitely isn't ready, and in fact the best analogue I had to this was the mysterious 1985. It's a wine that shows more of a leathery component, with more black fruit and dusty elements (feels a little Bordelais, if you ask me). The palate is very full, with the sweet black fruit providing some counterpoint to the massive tannins. Needs lots of time to come around, but this should be another great bottle in the making. I wonder if 10 years later this will still be as shut down as the 1985 today.

March 9, 2019 - Three hour decant. Excellent right from the get-go in the classic Togni style. Rich, dark fruit, very light dusting of tannins with excellent depth. After two more hours, the wine tightened up a bit but showed more of the tertiary characteristics of an older wine that broadened its appeal. Long life ahead.
