November 2, 2015 - PNP. cork perfect. color opaque crimson. nose shows mostly cherry and anise. seemed tight so decanted and that helped but still very primary. swishing shows both acid and tannin structure, and heavy fruit. sipping shows good balance but still leans toward the heavy side of fruit and structure. I think that this is far from resolved and has many years ahead. as it is now I think very good.

December 3, 2013 - Enjoyed, even if still rather young and towards Plain Jane in expression.

Earth and cherries in a smeared-out character without delineation. Perfect acids M+ and M+ rough tannins. If we had another btl, we'd wait until ~2020 for it. (Slow-O for 18 hrs, decanted 2 hrs.)
    Wife: 90p
    Great QPR.
Thoroughly enjoyed at La Verdura (Yokohama).

September 15, 2013 - The nose showed vibrant cherry, followed by roasted chestnut, herbs, floral undergrowth and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, focused red fruits with a crisp acidic cut paved way for notes of wild herbs and cedar. The wine softened in the glass, picking up darker, richer tones, yet remained youthful through the finish. With a few more years in the cellar, this wine should be drinking beautifully.

August 13, 2013 - Cork fine. Wine thin and acidic. Bummer...
Opened previous eve for long slow-ox.
Started thin, continued thin throughout all samplings along its trajectory.
Was aimed at Cuscina 13 Aprile in Azabu-Juban (Tokyo) for a great dinner, but was replaced by a young Washingtonian CF in the last minute.

After one more day opened, this time in the fridge and UNDER cork:
Some small coming together of leathery aromas, but this wine is just not what you'd expect reading previous tasters and the label. We've got a bad sad bland btl here :-(

    3 days later
This overly acidic face-plant went in to the sink. No wake up. Just, plain poor wine...

July 26, 2013 - It has just occurred to me that I have never had a Nobile de Montepulciano I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. Carpineto always offers excellent value for money, and this wine is no exception. Even though the vintage isn't a particularly strong one, this effort delivers on all fronts. Good balance between fruit, acidity and oak, with a strong, lingering finish. I think the integration process will continue to improve the wine over the next 2-3 years, and can see it drinking well for some time to come. As always - recommended with food (particularly most tomato-based pasta dishes and pizza - some basil will lift it into another dimension!).
