Community Tasting Notes 3

April 25, 2013 - Monthly Tasting Group LTB 2013-05; Beautiful Mosel (Germany) (by AW): Mild tropical fruits in the bouquet. On the palate very focused with a firm amount of citrus and minerals. Some honey in the start. Impressive and concentrated complex wine which lacks some refinement in this stage. In 5+ years from now this might show quite much better.

September 15, 2012 - Deep nose, concentrated citrus-peach fruit notes, a hint of butter and creaminess, refined minerality. Mid-sized body, profound attack with thick and intensive flavours longly developing. Lively, tight, vibrant but well-integrated and polished acidity. Densely textured mid-palate, precisely focused and impressive long finish. Clean texture with very fine creaminess, smoothly rounded details. True mosel flavours with elegant, unitary structure. Beautiful! 93-94

November 15, 2011 - Poured out a small glass to give this some air-time at noon, popped back in the 'Fridge & started tasting this 8 hours later.

Light pure yellow w/subtlest hint of gold. Lighter than the regular Scharzhofberger.

Have to stop here, at the beginning, to say that with the first sniff, I became giddy with the immediate realization that I am in the presence of greatness!

Nose > HUGE laser, diamond pointed, salty, stony, lemon & lime oil. Creamy, steely, slatey bitter lime, blood orange, key lime custard, & lychee.
This blue slate baby is all about crushed rocks, minerals, slate, & stone, pungent quince, pineapple, & liquid rock. Crystallized slate, with razor pungency. Any hint of fuder is totally overwhelmed by massive, mineralized fruit.
    Monstrous intensity.

On the palate > HUGE, intense crystallized slate, stone, crushed rock, key & bitter lime, oyster-shell, mandarin & blood orange, lime flesh & grapefruit pith.
Freaky Ninja-Superhero-Frankenstein like intensity. Big extract. Big acidity. Huge salty minerality.
Both laser tight, & oily fat. Generous, pungent, & severe. Screams elegance - turned up to 11!
Giving a lot, but still really locked up. Seems totally dry, but probably isn't, & who cares!
AMAZING intensity, complexity, pure class, & place.
Smoky, sweaty blackcurrant, sappy, salty, & oh so slatey powdered mineral, & rock.
Essence of rock Riesling. The unbelievably intense echo of bitter lime & stony/slatey minerality on the extended finish & aftertaste is blow you away amazing & unending.

This great wine defines a great terroir, with a controlled crop, in a great year, in inspired hands.
This is the type of WOW wine I love best: Gargantuan intensity, density, & concentration, yet so complex, elegant, & even lithe.

One of the greatest Rieslings I've ever tasted, & I've tasted a few.
