August 7, 2018 - When I discovered CellarTracker I went through my entire wine collection and discovered a few bottles tucked away that would have been drunk by now if I had noticed them. This is one of those. It's still nice with a strong cheese accompaniment, but I wish I had opened it 2 or 3 years ago when it might have been a lot better. The wine is garnet coloured, and there's nothing in the smell to suggest anything other than a good cab/merlot. I can detect hints of asparagus and stronger hints of black olive on the tongue, and the mouthfeel is warm, even hot. But there's marked acidity, a little too much for comfort without the sharp cheese to mute it a bit.
    What might have been, eh?

September 11, 2014 - Tobacco leaves, black tea and olive brine on the nose, very subdued despite the 3 years in burgundian oak. Carries some lingering heat but lacks boldness and fruit. Despite this is still smooth and mellow with a more herbaceous edge as the merlot definitely dominates. A little lacklustre. Definitely drink now.

January 1, 2011 - Annual Day Trip to Martinborough: Transparent. Oak, roasted kernels, currants and earth on nose and palate. Very big, full-bodied wine (in spite of its light look), high acidity, rich mouthfeel.

February 7, 2010 - A deep blackberry and mocha nose, with a drying palate of blackcurrant, cherry and some aniseed. Nice tannins and good length. Good aging potential.
