December 9, 2021 - TdF exploration and Archie Rose (Alejandro's place, Mascot): Smells 'dense', plums, earthy spices, a little leather, tobacco leaf, smidges of blackcurrant. Juicy initially then an immediate glorious tannic hit closes down the palate. Alcohol is present but non-intrusive on the finish. Fruit is present but very much in the background. It is, as they say, what it is and none the worse for that. Opened this a decade too soon - even with a 2 hour decant this was still very primary.

April 10, 2020 - From Coravin. More plummy and raisined compared to the Montus, still with blackcurrant but the fruit is slightly baked. The sweet spices are a little dustier, tiny caramel notes as well, a touch chalky on the nose. It's more concentrated and drier on the palate as well. Not austere, more brooding I'd say. Juicy medium plus intensity acidity and medium plus intensity chalky, grainy tannins which are drying and a little too much for the fruit. Begs cow meat...steak preferably. Kind of compelling.

November 14, 2018 - Coravin fun - Medoc check-in continues and ring in (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Peppery spiced blackcurrant, liquorice, over cream, cedar an a spirituous note. On the palate it's juicy and savoury , leathery with liquorice and black fruit married to bold, drying, chalky tannins and 85% plain chocolate. Long, chewy, needs years but great potential.

September 3, 2018 - Deep purplish ruby colour. Nose medium intensity, with aromas of asphalt, graphite, blackcurrant, blackberries, black cherries, black licorice. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), fine starting soft then becoming grippy high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackcurrant, blackberries, black cherries, sweet tarry earth, black licorice, graphite, savoury salty umami, hint of herbs and olive. Mushroomy earth with more air. Long structured finish.
Very good quality. Hardly rustic. One of the best most polished approachable Madiran I have tried so far. If blind, I could have guessed a middle aged left bank Bordeaux. Still has many more years of ageing ahead. Excellent QPR.

September 1, 2018 - Excellent, absolutely superb wine. 13.5% alc. (90% Tannat, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Colour: jet black berry
Bouquet: black fruits and olives - cherries, plums,
Palate: liquorice, black fruits, herbal, very dry wine, very full bodied more so as it breathes, typically very tannins but soft tannins though puckerish, with a slight hole in the palate at the end.
