April 7, 2024 - Don & The Shrimpheads (Craig & Nita's Place): Dark red color with an 8mm bricked transition. Low neck fill, splash double decanted and filtered with cheese cloth. Drank a glass over an hour. I thought this bottle showed very well. Pencil with a perfume of red fruits, leather and more leather; cassis, damp forest floor and dried mushroom. The palate expands on the leather, earth with cherry, followed by dark berry fruits with hints of cassis and blue fruit with pencil on the back end. 92+ to 93pts.

April 7, 2024 - Don & The Shrimpheads (Craig & Nita's Place): This bottle had a top shoulder fill with a saturated cork and signs of seepage. Splash double decanted for sediment. The color wasn;t bad, but unfortunately, this just came off somewhat madeirized and not anywhere near where it should be.

April 7, 2024 - Local Minneapolis Chef extraordinaire Don Saunders cooked for 8 Shrimpheads at my place. We highly recommend hiring Don to cook for in home events! Present were CV,DM,KB,CS,SS,JV,DD, & LI. Kevin's btl. Give Kevin credit, he brought 2 of these from the same lot. The first btl was mostly gone. This bottle was worth pondering and while interesting & fun to try was never close to living up to my hopes for a transcendental experience that some of these btls achieve. I really appreciate Kevin sourcing these and sharing them but the wine itself while still there was never that compelling 60s BDX you hope for. A few years ago we had some local btls from that era that were amazing. I'm lucky to have tasted those and know first-hand how great those 60s BDX can be with 55+yrs on them but this btl wasn't in that league. Kevin, sincere thanks for bringing these!

January 13, 2024 - Low-filled bottle from the same case, just lower shoulder level. Durand couldn’t save the cork, partially fell into bottle. Nose was not entirely clean initially, funky notes mostly gone after 15 mins. Predominately wet mud with just a touch of floral notes lurking at the background. Drinking really well on the palate though, tannins mostly resolved but retained good structure. Good length and complexity. Finished with tobacco notes lingering on. Another good showing of this particular vintage of Beychevelle. Well stored bottles should last for quite sometime yet. This wine actually continued to improve over 4 hours, amazing!

December 30, 2023 - Nose of cedar, leather, and barnyard, same on the palate, slightly tired but 57 years old so deservedly so, medium body, smooth, mellow, tasty, medium/long finish, great Chateau to visit.
